My first thinking about teaching kids Englishi in Bali was erractic.I thought the kids would be good at English, for they were living in a world-famous island , an international (espepecially westen world)tourist attraction. However , in fact , people in Bali generally have quite a low living standard. Volenteers in The Greenway told us that the kids in Bali were truly bad at English, they really needed our help. That was why our project was teaching Bali kids English. It was not only a challenge for me ,but also a chance for the kids in Bali.
So my trip in Bali began.
The project was divided into two weeks. The first week was a learning week when we would learn some Indonesian culture. And the second week was a teaching week when we would teach the kids English.
In the first week, the coordinator taught us the traditional culture about ceremony in Indonesia and Indonesian languege. Fuethermore ,they took us to pedestrianism in Lovina to feel the local customs and practices. We got to know a lot about Indonesian people these days and we learned lots about how to talk to local persons and how to feel what they felt. Also, we went to the biggest temple in Bali to have a visit. Their temples are not so glorious as our temples back at home. Although the temple was not luxuriant, it contains oceans of significances: people's faith, people's recognition, people's respection and so on. When we got there, it was about 10:30, when many local people went there to have a ceremony and pray to their god for protecting their family. I was completly moved by those Religious people and the people who truly love their family. After that, we went to a very tradintional place which was called The Holy Water. What a pure name ! I was caught into this place with such a pure name. This is a beautiful place for people to clean their bodies' stain and their anger. I can't use any word to describe this divine place. Our leader Linda , another student and I dropped into the water to have a cleaning. We'd enjoyed the pure water and the tradintional way of cleaning our bodies. It was truly amazing. After all of it , our weekend began.
My friends and I went to the Kuta to have a diverting weekend. Kuta is a famous travelling place for surfing. Many foreigners would surfing right here. I had to say that it was very fashionable and funny. Most of my friends had a try on it. They told us how exciting it was and how they controlled the board. Well , that sounds really great , but I was still afraid of that. After playing on the beach, we've enjoyed the local dishes which really was a big treat for my stomach. Then, the weeked was over with our happiness.
The most important week began. Our final task was to teach Kids. It meant that we should prepare for an interesting class. Wow! That was really challenging. We must prepare well or we would miss the opportunity to teach someone else English. Also, we must be very united to arrange each other's mission in class. I had to say this was truly a hard job. After the first day's preparing,we would be going on the way to our school to meet our students. To be honest, as a new teacher, I was pretty nervous at that time. But the students were very outgoing and said Hi to us. I was happy to meet them. When we were greeting to them, I didn't feel nervous at all, and I felt I was one of them at that time. We were talking to them and introdused ourselves to them and they understood what we meant. Then we told them to introduse themselves by a funny game called Spreading the Flower with the Drumming. I told them the game rules and threw a ball for them to catch. After the funny game, I almost knew everyone of them, and the class began. I taught them the names of animals and numbers by playing interesting games. They loved games and loved us. We were not only delighted but also prond of them. I loved my students. They listened to us carefully and treated us like a family. The end of the course of the day was still coming. Well , we didn't tell the students , cause we did not want them to hear about this unhappy news. We took photos with all of them and still played with them as usual. We finally left. I was unwilling to leave, so I kissed my students goodbye. I truly wanted my students would have a bright future and they would have a very happy life whether they were poor or not.
On the Last day of the trip, we said goodbye to the coordinator and other volunteers in The Greenway.
In these two weeks, I had a very pleasure trip in Bali. I leanred a lot, felt a lot, and saw a lot. This project made me more independent, made me more confident, and made me more
conscientious. By the way, I hope my students in Bali will have a beautiful childhood and life. Also, I hope I will have a wonderful senior high school life and get good grades.
